What an FNSKU is, and how it differs from a UPC or ASIN

An FNSKU (Fulfillment Network Stock Keeping Unit) is Amazon's own barcode — typically a 10-character code starting with X0 followed by 8 more letters and numbers, generated per seller-listing-condition combination. The same product listed by two different sellers, or in two different conditions ("New" vs. "Used — Like New"), gets two different FNSKUs. That's the key difference from a UPC or an ASIN: a UPC identifies the product itself, shared by every seller of that item; an ASIN identifies Amazon's own catalog listing, also shared across sellers. An FNSKU identifies your specific unit, in your specific condition, inside Amazon's fulfillment network — what lets a warehouse associate credit a scanned unit to exactly the right seller and listing, which matters most for commingled, stickerless inventory pooled across multiple sellers.

Where to get FNSKUs, and what has to be on the label

Seller Central generates an FNSKU automatically the moment you create an FBA listing — find it under Manage FBA Inventory, or the "Send/Replenish Inventory" flow, as a per-SKU barcode you can download. Paste that FNSKU text one per line, or map an inventory export's FNSKU column with /bulk and send validated rows straight here, and it renders as a Code 128 barcode — the exact symbology Amazon's own FBA label requirements call for. Amazon requires four things on every unit label: a scannable Code 128 barcode, the human-readable FNSKU text, the product name, and the condition (e.g. "New"). When Amazon requires FNSKU labels, and print quality

Seller Central calls this "Labeling Required", and it applies whenever your inventory can't ship stickerless: commingled inventory, anything expiration-dated, and categories Amazon tracks extra closely (media, hazmat). If a shipment plan shows "Labeling Required", every unit needs its own FNSKU label before it ships — mislabeled or missing labels are a common cause of FBA shipments getting rejected at the warehouse.
