How the Shopify preset maps Handle, Title, SKU, and Barcode

Export your catalog from Shopify Admin → Products → Export → CSV for all products (or a filtered view), and drop the file on the bulk generator above. The moment it lands, this page recognizes a real Shopify products_export.csv by its Handle, Title, Variant SKU, and Variant Barcode columns and pre-maps them without you touching a dropdown: Variant Barcode becomes the value that gets encoded, and Title becomes the human-readable label under each barcode. If every non-empty barcode value in your file looks like a real 12–13 digit GTIN, EAN-13 is selected automatically; otherwise it falls back to Code 128, which encodes any text. You can always override either column, or the barcode type itself, by hand in the mapping panel above — the preset is a starting point, not a lock. A row of live previews renders the first five barcodes immediately, so you can catch a wrong column before generating the rest of a large catalog.

What happens when Variant Barcode is empty

A lot of Shopify catalogs never had GTINs assigned, so Variant Barcode sits blank on most rows. When that's the case — more than half the rows have no barcode value — the preset switches automatically to Code 128 encoding your Variant SKU instead, so every product still gets a scannable barcode without you having to invent fake GTINs. A note appears above the mapping panel whenever this fallback kicks in. If you'd rather assign real barcodes first, fill in Variant Barcode in Shopify and re-export, or just switch the data column by hand once the file is loaded. Either way, exporting a ZIP or sending rows to the label builder skips anything that still fails validation and tells you exactly how many rows that was, so a few missing SKUs never silently block the rest of the batch.

Shopify POS, Dymo printers, and sheet labels

Yes — barcodes printed here scan fine at Shopify POS. POS doesn't care how a barcode reached the product; it just needs the value scanned at checkout to match the barcode saved on that variant (Variant Barcode, or the SKU you mapped it to). If you print with a Dymo label printer, you already have a workflow — this tool is for everyone else: no dedicated label printer, no per-label subscription, just an Avery-compatible sheet in a regular printer. Does Shopify generate barcodes for you?

No — Shopify stores a Variant Barcode field per product, but it doesn't generate a scannable barcode image or a printable label from it. If you haven't assigned a real GTIN, that field is usually just blank. This tool turns whatever's in that field (or your Variant SKU, if it's empty) into an actual barcode image you can print.

Can I print barcode labels without a Shopify app?

What barcode type does Shopify POS use?

The preset here picks EAN-13 automatically when your Variant Barcode values look like valid GTINs, and Code 128 otherwise, so the printed barcode matches what POS expects.

Do I need a Dymo printer, or can I use sheet labels?

Either works — Shopify doesn't require a specific printer. If you already have a Dymo (or similar) label printer, keep using it; if not, this tool exports Avery-compatible sheet PDFs (5160, 8160, L7160, and more) you can print on any regular printer, no dedicated hardware required.

Is my Shopify export data uploaded anywhere?

No. The CSV you export from Shopify is parsed entirely in your browser tab using JavaScript — it's never sent to our servers or anyone else's. You can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the whole pipeline, from upload to printed PDF, still works.

Do I need a Shopify barcode app?
